What is slippage, and how do you control it?

Slippage is the difference between the price you expect when you place a trade and the price at which it actually completes.
Why it happens
Crypto prices change constantly. Between the moment you see a price and the moment your trade is made, the market can move. The faster the market is moving, the bigger that difference can be.
An example
You preview a swap that would give you 100 USDT for your coin. By the time you confirm, the price has dropped slightly, and the same swap would now give you 99.5 USDT. That 0.5% difference is slippage.
How to control it
On CryptoEx you set a slippage tolerance: the largest price move you are willing to accept.
- With a tolerance of 1%, a swap goes through as long as the price has not moved against you by more than 1%.
- If it has moved further, the swap is stopped, nothing is charged, and you see the new price before deciding again.
A lower tolerance protects you from surprises but may stop more swaps when markets are busy. A higher tolerance lets more swaps through but accepts a bigger move.
When you want a fixed price
If you only want to trade at a specific price, use Your price on the Swap page. Your order waits until the market reaches your price, and you can cancel it at any time.
